Title: Two JWST galaxy evolution postdoc positions at CAB
Centre: Centro de Astrobiología (CAB/CSIC-INTA), Madrid, Spain
Type: Postdoctoral
Applications are invited for two Postdoctoral Positions at the Centro de Astrobiologia (CAB, CSIC-INTA) in Madrid, Spain, to work on galaxy evolution studies using JWST and ancillary data. Deadline: January 20, 2024
POSTDOC JWST#1
Position no. 1 (JWST#1) is open for observational or theoretical candidates interested in evolutionary or spatially resolved studies of dust, ISM, and star formation of galaxies. The postdoctoral researcher will work with Dr. Irene Shivaei on leading large, ongoing projects with JWST photometric and spectroscopic data from MIRI (imaging), NIRCam (imaging, grism), and NIRSpec (MSA) within international collaborations such as the MIRI and NIRCam/NIRSpec GTOs (SMILES, JADES), FRESCO, CONGRESS, and LEGGOS.
POSTDOC JWST#2
Position no. 2 (JWST#2) is aimed for researchers interested in the study of intermediate and high redshift galaxies through spectro-photometric spatially resolved data from MIRI (imager and MRS), NIRCam (imaging), and NIRSpec (IFS). The postdoctoral researcher will work with Dr. Luis Colina and Dr. Pablo G. Pérez-González on leading large, ongoing projects with JWST photometric and spectroscopic data, within international collaborations such as MIRI and NIRSpec GTOs, CEERS, JADES, NGDEEP, PRIMER, and RIOJA.
The successful candidates will be integrated into the extragalactic group at CAB, which has major involvements in the JWST MIRI and NIRSpec constructions and the GTO programs. They will also be able to spend a fraction of their time on their independent research.
Candidates must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a related field before the commencement of the position in Spring or Summer 2024, as mutually agreed. The initial appointments are for two years with possible renewal for one more year (total of three years) contingent upon satisfactory performance, mutual agreement, and availability of funds. These positions come with a competitive salary for Spain, travel funds, and social security for the employee and their family.
CAB is a multi-disciplinary institute funded jointly by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Spanish National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA). It has two campuses at the site of the ESA European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) and the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA). The successful candidates will reside at the site on INTA, where most of the extragalactic MIRI and NIRSpec researchers are based, with the possibility to frequently visit ESAC if desired. As part of the Spain community, the successful candidate will have access to the following observational facilities: ESO (including VLT, ALMA), IRAM/NOEMA, and the facilities at La Palma including GTC 10.4m optical telescope (and partners such as LMT), and ING.
Applicants should send their CV (including a list of lead-author or major-contribution publications), and a brief description of past research accomplishments and current research interests (2-4 pages). Applicants should also arrange for 2-3 letters of recommendation to be sent to the same addresses.
For position JWST#1, send all application documents and letters as well as enquiries to ishivaei@cab.inta-csic.es
For position JWST#2, send all application documents and letters as well as enquiries to pgperez@cab.inta-csic.esand colina@cab.inta-csic.es
Full consideration will be given to all complete applications received by January 20, 2024, and the call will be open until the position is filled.
