Zanette and myself started exploring certain cultural patterns, as the abundance of different surnames or the repetition of ancestors in biparental genealogical trees. We have had much fun combining these interests with our professional knowledge. More than ten papers have resulted from our investigations, and several years ago we decided it was time to write a popular science account on the subject. Today, the book is out thanks to a <a title=\"Manrubia y Zanette son galardonados con el XVIII Premio Europeo de Divulgaci\u00f3n Cient\u00edfica\" href=\"http:\/\/auditore.cab.inta-csic.es\/manrubia\/manrubia-y-zanette-son-galardonados-con-el-xviii-premio-europeo-de-divulgacion-cientifica\/\">Prize<\/a> granted by Universitat de Val\u00e8ncia and the town of Alzira.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In its first edition, the book has been translated to Catalan. Within a few months, the Spanish edition should appear. We hope it can be soon translated to English!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>&#8220;Els nostres pares ens han donat nom i ens han llegat els cognoms que diuen qui som. Una multitud d\u2019avantpassats han encreuat els seus gens per a produir els que cada un de nosaltres tenim. Per\u00f2 si comparem els arbres geneal\u00f2gics de dos individus coetanis, descobrim que, en remuntar-nos a un temps no gens lluny\u00e0, resulten id\u00e8ntics. De fet, l\u2019her\u00e8ncia gen\u00e8tica rebuda d\u2019aquells individus que ens han llegat el cognom \u00e9s \u00ednfima.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Com \u00e9s d\u2019important el nostre llegat gen\u00e8tic? Fins a quin punt ens condiciona? Gens i genealogies relaciona els nostres trets culturals i biol\u00f2gics amb la intenci\u00f3 de fer-nos comprendre com apareixen algunes regularitats i, alhora, desfer alguns mites sobre la rellev\u00e0ncia de l\u2019her\u00e8ncia.
